I love my bed. Existence is exhausting, and turning my brain off at night is the absolute best way to cope. Most of the time. In Terraria, your bed is for more than just sleeping, it also serves as your spawn point for when things go bad and you die an embarrassing death. This is how you make one.
There are different types of beds in Terraria, and all of them can be used as spawn points. For simplicity’s sake, I’m just going to tell you how to make a basic bed.
How to make a bed in Terraria
Not to sound obvious, but the first thing you need when making a bed in Terraria is a workbench. This takes 10 pieces of wood, which you mostly get from trees.
Step two is to make a furnace. This requires 20 stone, 4 wood, and 3 torches (Made with 1 wood and 1 gel, which is dropped by slimes.)
Next, you can then use that forge to create an anvil. To do so, you need to use the forge to create either 5 iron bars or 5 lead bars. Doesn’t matter which way you go, so use whichever ore you find first. These are found in ore deposits not far from the surface, and you can get them most easily with a pickaxe. Once you have crafted the bars, you can then use them with the workbench to create the anvil.
You will now need an additional iron bar to create the chain using the anvil. That’s it, just 1 iron bar and you can create a chain.
Now we need a Sawmill. Along with the chain, you will also need 10 wood and 2 iron bars. Use these ingredients with the workbench and you can then craft the Sawmill.
We need the Sawmill to create a Loom. Good news, you just need 12 wood to create a Loom with the Sawmill.
We’re in the home stretch. The bed requires 5 silk to make. Each unit of silk requires 7 cobwebs, which are found underground. Put those numbers together, and you get a total of 35 cobwebs you will need, then craft the silk using the Loom.
Finally, you need to take 15 wood and 5 silk and use the workbench to create a bed. But wait, there’s more!
How to set a bed as a spawn point in Terraria
Having a bed is one part of the whole spawn point equation in Terraria. It needs to be located in a “House” and what Terraria considers a house is pretty specific.
You need to create a structure that is 9 blocks wide and 7 blocks high, with 7 blocks by 5 blocks of free space. Actually, height and width don’t matter, just how much free space there is. It can’t be made out of dirt, unfortunately. It has to be a house, not just a room. So that means you’ll need to use brick or wood or even stone to create your house. It needs walls and a roof. It also needs a background wall, but weirdly, the game doesn’t mind if you make this out of dirt.
NPC houses need a bit more furniture to attract NPCs, but just having a bed is enough to use as a spawn point for player purposes.
As long as you have enough space for the bed, you can plop it down in your new house. Then, if you interact with it, you’ll be able to set it as a spawn point. If you want to remove that spawn point, you can either use a different bed, or interact with the same bed and choose the option to remove it.
