The difference between success and failure in Helldivers 2 can change based on how well you use Stratagems. But pressing the correct button combo quickly and accurately while getting swarmed is a challenge by itself. If you’re having issues, maybe you can practice by playing Stratagem Hero in Helldivers 2.
You no doubt already saw it: That adorable arcade cabinet at the top of the stairs near the spawn point of a ship. If the Stratagem Hero arcade called out to you like it did my old ass, then you likely wanted to drop in a token and give it a go.
Sadly, Stratagem Hero is only unlocked with the Super Citizen Edition of Helldivers 2. Luckily, it seems you’re not out of options if you purchased the base edition of the game.
Is there another way to play Stratagem Hero in Helldivers 2?
As mentioned, Stratagem Hero is unlocked with the Super Citizen Edition of Helldivers 2. If you have the upgrade, the arcade can be experienced right away by activating it on your ship. But I was also able to play it, even though I only have the regular version of the game. I believe that if you join the ship of a friend or player who has the special edition of Helldivers 2, it becomes available for all.
Doing so let me do things like take this screenshot:
No one on the team had a Super Citizen Title, but you’re not required to brandish it at all. Someone on the ship bought the edition, but clearly wasn’t interested in showing off.
Do you get anything for playing Stratagem Hero?
Other than tired fingers, playing Stratagem Hero doesn’t seem to reward you in anything. Mostly, it exists to help you practice calling in Stratagems, as the game ups the difficulty as you complete rounds under a decreasing time restraint. You can challenge others to beat your score, but you sadly cannot put a quarter on the machine to call next. If you don’t find Stratagem Hero all that engaging, well, it seems to be the only arcade game in Helldivers 2.
Why play Stratagem Hero?
Playing Stratagem Hero is a quick way to practice the Stratagem cheat codes in the safety of a Destroyer ship. Practice makes perfect, after all, and it’s not something easily managed when you have three Chargers gunning for your tailpipe.
The arcade can be also a cute, little distraction while you wait for your next mission. If you feel like it helps justify the price of the special edition to get it unlocked, more power to you. At least you still have options to play it if you’re not interested in the upgrade.
