Sonic Generations is already one of the best Sonic games there is, and Sega’s upcoming remaster promises to be even better, which is why any Sonic fans out there will want to pre-order it ASAP. Aside from enhanced visuals, Sonic x Shadow Generations includes a separate mode centered around Shadow, Sonic’s edgy rival, as well as unique levels and a new storyline that delves into Shadow’s past.
In the wake of the Summer Game Fest 2024 trailer confirming a release date of October 25, Sega has shared pre-order details on the different versions available. We’ve compiled all the details below, along with explanations on what exactly is included with each version, prices, and how to pre-order Sonic x Shadow Generations.
Every edition of Sonic x Shadow Generations
Digital Standard Edition
On its own, a digital copy of Sonic x Shadow Generations comes with no extra bells or whistles, with the only pre-order incentive being a special skin for Sonic. This skin gives him his character model from 1999’s Sonic Adventure for the Dreamcast, which makes for some nice nostalgia. This skin will only be applicable to Modern Sonic and not Classic Sonic. If you purchase the game on PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5, you’ll also receive “Extended Prologue Animations with deleted scenes.” At the time of writing, there’s no mention of this bonus being made available for other platforms.

Physical Day One Edition
Anyone who prefers to own a physical copy of Sonic x Shadow Generations will also be treated to the Sonic Adventure skin for pre-ordering. However, physical pre-orders come with with an extra exclusive and enticing bonus: a 28-page journal written by Gerald Robotnik, the grandfather of Doctor Eggman and the man who created Shadow. Said journal is 28 pages long and contains “Gerald’s innermost thoughts and drawings” from the time he worked on the Space Colony Ark whilst creating Shadow. This is a must-have for anyone eager for more lore and backstory for Shadow. It’s a pre-order bonus only, so you don’t want to wait until after the game’s already come out to grab it. PlayStation owners will still get the extended prologue animations though.

The most jam-packed offer available is the Digital Deluxe Edition, since this comes with a Digital Deluxe Season Pass. Said season pass contains an extra skin and level for Shadow that will launch in the holiday 2024 season, a second skin based on Terios (an early concept of Shadow’s character design), additional music, a digital artbook and soundtrack, and some skill points for the base Sonic Generations game. It also comes with three days early access, though not for the Switch version for some reason. This is on top of the Sonic Adventure skin pre-order bonus and PlayStation-only extended prologue. While Sega hasn’t confirmed this, it’s probably safe to assume the contents of the season pass will made available as a separate purchase at a later date.
