There are endless choices you’ll need to make when you journey through the adventure that is Baldur’s Gate 3. Who to fight, where to go, and what party to keep with you are just some of the decisions that you’ll be making.
You’ll also need to decide what characters you want to save from terrible fates. One of these characters is Duke Ravengard, Wyll’s father, who you’ll be given the quest to save in Act 1. However, it will be a while before you’re actually able to save him. If you’re wondering whether it’s worth it to save him, we’re here to let you know.
Is it worth saving Duke Ravengard in BG3?
If you’re interested in following Wyll’s story, then yes, you should save Duke Ulder Ravengard. This rescue won’t actually score you any useful items or anything, as it’s more for sentimentality and story. Reuniting Wyll with his father is a sweet moment, and if you want to get the best story you can, it’s worth the trouble.
That being said, if you’re only in it for the rewards, you’ll be disappointed. You’ll get nothing like the Intransigent Warhammer. Saving Duke Ravengard is also not an easy task, and it won’t be until BG3’s Act 3 that you’re able to rescue him.
How to save Duke Ravengard in BG3, Act 3
In Act 3, you’ll be given the ability to save the Grand Duke in the Iron Throne Prison. After Gortash’s coronation, he’ll disappear, and you’ll meet up with Mizora at your camp. She’ll offer Wyll a new contract: Wyll can break the contract immediately, but she won’t tell him where his father is. Or, he can forge an eternal contract with Mizora, and she’ll tell you where the Grand Duke is.
Regardless of what you choose, head to The Iron Throne by using the submersible, and Duke Ravengard is in the cell directly to the East of the ladder. You’ll only get six combat rounds to save him and others, so use your turns wisely.
If you choose not to learn Duke Ravengard’s location from Mizora, she’ll appear when you get him out of his cell. She’ll try to kill him by summoning Combustion Belly Spiderlings. The Grand Duke will only have 35 HP when you find him, so before taking him out of his cell, heal him to have a better chance of saving him.
Try using Telekinesis to move Duke Ravengard out of the way, or use the Dimension Door spell to teleport him out of the way. Whatever you decide to do, you need to move quickly since you only have six turns to save him. Once Duke Ravengard is in the submersible, he can’t be harmed.
Once you’ve done it successfully, you can meet up with Duke Ravengard at the camp where he and Wyll have a nice reunion.
