What magic do you need to speak to animals in Baldur’s Gate 3?
You’ll need the Magic Initiate: Druid feat to get the Speak with Animals Level 1 Divination spell. You can do this by leveling up your magical characters to Level 4. You can pick this feat and then select Speak With Animals under the available spells as shown above. The symbol is a man and an animal talking to each other. Wyll knows this spell, so I have him talk to the animals in this world instead of my main protagonist.
Is there an item you can use?
There’s the Potion of Animal Speaking, but it’s quite rare to find. However, Volo does sell it during Act 1. Free this mischievous man from the goblin camp and then return to your own encampment once you tell him to go there for safety. Afterwards, you can trade with him. While speaking to the fool, click the “Trade” button on the bottom left, as there’s no dialogue option available. You can buy five Potions of Animal Speaking for 100 coins each.
How to craft Potions of Animal Speaking
To craft Potions of Animal Speaking, you’ll first need the recipe. It’s located at the Rosymorn Monastery. Enter through the broken window on the left. Kill the Kobold Looters that are happily drunk. Go up the ladder, follow the path outside, and jump over to the cliff ahead. Run up the hill and then jump back to the building, onto the second floor. Turn right, go past the vines, and remain on the second floor. Take the door to the right, and you’ll see a cabinet with a book laid out. This has the recipe for the Potion of Animal Speaking.
To make the potion, go into the inventory menu and click on the Alchemy tab indicated by a vial. Next, choose Potions, and it will list the Potion of Animal Speaking. You’ll need one essence of Acorn Truffle and one of any salt to make it. Once you have the necessary ingredients, craft the potion and drink it. Now, you can speak to all the animals in Baldur’s Gate 3, including a dog, an eagle, a rat, and more.
