Once you’re through the front gate in Lorelei and the Laser Eyes, you’re free to explore a little and uncover new information that could help you with puzzles in the future. But your main goal should really be getting into room 2014.
All hotels have rooms, but there are only three with numbers on them that you should take note of at the start of Lorelei and the Laser Eyes: 1847, 1963, and 2014. But the hotel feels vast as you enter it, with clues everywhere and pieces of puzzles presenting half the picture you need to solve them. Your main focus, though, should be on opening room 2014, and this is how you do it.
How to unlock room 2014 in Lorelei and the Laser Eyes
The first thing you’ll need to do to unlock room 2014 in Lorelei and the Laser Eyes is actually outside the hotel. You must head to the southwest corner of the courtyard outside the hotel to enter the gatehouse from behind. Inside, there’s a TV you can tune to clear up the picture it’s receiving. Once you’ve done this, you’ll get a hint for “Man at the gate?”
Now, it’s time to head to the hotel’s entrance. The keypad next to the front door has some red marks on it that should help you work out the code. You need to type the buttons in order from the one with the fewest red marks to the one with the most. The order is 1, 8, 4, 7.
Now you’re inside the hotel. It’s worth listening at the door to the left of the entrance. You’ll hear a conversation you won’t quite understand yet, but it’ll add context to discoveries you make later. Then, head downstairs to the basement. You can do this either from reception or by exploring the hotel and working your way downstairs when you find the right staircase. Once you’ve done that, head up the stairs from the basement to reception, and the man will have appeared.
After the conversation with the man is over, you can explore the room he is in. This is the reception office, and inside is a letter and a locked cabinet. The letter references 1963 and the same period one year ago. The idea here is that you need to subtract one year, leaving you with the code 1962.
Unlike previous puzzles, you need to swap around the blocks in the lock until they show this code. It took me a few attempts to get it right. If you’re struggling, try changing a single block multiple times to work out where its lines sit.
Inside this cabinet is the Room 2014 Key. All you need to do now is head upstairs and unlock the room. I recommend you save before you unlock it, just in case you want to return to this point later on after you’ve worked through the game a little deeper.
