Jack-of-all-weapons
Octopath Traveler 2 contains a slew of secrets for players to discover, including four hidden job classes. One of the most useful of the four is the Octopath Traveler 2 Armsmaster class. This job is a jack-of-all-trades, capable of wielding every weapon type in the game.
Octopath Traveler 2 Armsmaster job class, explained
Of the four secret jobs, the Armsmaster is the best when it comes to pure physical weapons and damage. Normally with the eight main characters in Octopath Traveler 2, you can only use a few different weapon types at a time.
But the Armsmaster lets a single character use all six of the different weapon types. How it works is that the user can wield Divine Weapons, which are forged from hidden rusty weapons found around the world. Each new Divine Weapon grants the Armsmaster another ability, adding another skill to their growing roster of attack capabilities.
How to unlock the Armsmaster job
Given how versatile and flexible the Armsmaster secret job is, you may want to unlock it as soon as possible. Unfortunately, it is meant to be a late-game job. How you unlock is by heading to the city of Gravell in the Wildlands region and speaking with the retired blacksmith there.
You can find this area by heading to the northeastern section of the western continent, located far northeast of Crackridge. The area around it has level 45 enemies, so you’ll want to either grind to that respective level or run away from every battle.
I suggest equipping the Cleric’s Evil Ward support skill, which makes it much easier to escape battles. The Scholar’s Evasive Maneuvers support skill is also useful, since it reduces the amount of random encounters.
With this, you can save at various save stations along the way and potentially reach the city of Gravell much earlier in the game, if necessary.
How to access the retired blacksmith’s house
Once you arrive in Gravell, you’ll want to look the retired blacksmith’s house. It is noted by the typical license symbol on the minimap, like other guilds. Unfortunately, there is an obstacle in your way: a debt collector NPC who is blocking the entrance.
You’ll need to use a knock-out Path Action, like Hikari’s Duel ability or Throne’s Ambush technique, to take him out. Both characters have to be at least level 30 to make this happen. Throne’s ambush is the easier option since it is automatic and won’t require a drawn-out fight that will be quite hard to win below level 45.
Once you defeat the debt collector, you can enter the house. The retired blacksmith, Porta, will give you the Armsmaster job license as thanks for getting rid of the debt collector. From then on, you’ll be able to also bring rusty weapons for her to turn them into Divine Weapons.
