The Expendable Anti-Tank Stratagem in Helldivers 2 can be a powerful tool for a squad of players, but only in the right hands.

In Helldivers 2, players can call a plethora of Stratagems into missions. These include powerful bombs and high-caliber shots from a ship in orbit, as well as mechs, drones, and, of course, weapons. One of the deadliest weapons you can call down is the Expendable Anti-Tank Stratagem, which can take out pretty much anything in one shot. But you’ve got to be careful with it.

To use the Expendable Anti-Tank Stratagem in Helldivers 2, you need to be calling it down when it will benefit your team the most. It’s a single-shot rocket launcher that can destroy almost any enemy in the game, provided the rocket hits its target. But it doesn’t work in every situation, so you’ve got to pay attention to the flow of the mission to know when to call it in.

The first point to know is that you can carry this weapon with you from the start of a mission. So call it down as soon as you leave your Hellpod, so you have it on you. Then, you’ve got a massive weapon you can pull out exactly when you need it.

Of course, you can also call down the Expendable Anti-Tank Stratagem whenever you want. I’d argue that it’s better used in circumstances when your team is pushed together, such as in defensive missions or while waiting for the Pelican at the end of the mission.

If you’ve got a Personal Order to complete that requires you to get a certain number of enemy kills using the Expendable Anti-Tank Stratagem, call it down and grab it for yourself before a teammate takes it. This is a weapon that’s easy to lose to other players in the heat of battle.

Racking up kills is pretty simple with this Stratagem in defensive missions. This means you should aim for short missions such as Blitz: Search and Destroy, Extermination missions, or Evacuate High-Value Assets. All of these missions throw enemies at you, so you should be able to get the kills you need in one or two runs.

Once you have the Expendable Anti-Tank Stratagem, you need to line up the shot and fire it. The biggest enemies, such as Automaton Tanks and Terminid Bile Titans, will fall to the rocket you fire, meaning you can save your squad if these enemies are baring down on you.

The main thing to remember is that this Stratagem is single-use. You can’t reload it. You drop the launcher after the rocket has been fired, so make that shot count. Luckily, you’ll likely only be using it against massive enemies that are hard to miss, but factions like the Automatons have a nasty habit of firing their own rockets to make you fall over and miss your shots.

The best loadout for any Helldivers 2 player is always the one they’re most comfortable with. However, some strategies synergize better than others. Based on my time with the Expendable Anti-Tank Stratagem, below is the best loadout I’ve found.

  • Expendable Anti-Tank
  • Guard Dog Rover
  • Orbital Strike
  • Stalwart

With this loadout, you can call down and have the Expendable Anti-Tank Stratagem anytime during the mission. The Guard Dog Rover will watch your back while you aim and fire, and the Stalwart is a decent backup between points when the Expendable Anti-Tank is recharging. Finally, the Orbital Strike is a fantastic Stratagem to use as a backup if you miss your rocket.

When it comes to weapons and gear, I recommend you use whatever you play best with. These parts of your build are your bread and butter, and Stratagems are a topping, so you should have something tasty that will benefit you in the heat of combat.
