The October update of Dave the Diver added a few new sub missions, a couple of which involve an ice pick. Here’s where to find the ice pick and how to beat the ice pick minigame in Dave the Diver.
Where to get the ice pick
If you don’t have the ice pick yet, it can be picked up from a sub mission in the Glacial Area. As soon as you enter the main Glacial Area, swim to the right until you see a wall of ice. You’ll be prompted to lure a narwhal over in order to break the ice, thereby starting the sub mission.
There should be a narwhal near the entrance to the Glacial Area. Swim near it to aggro it, and bait it into ramming the wall of ice. Once it’s broken, you can go inside the passageway to meet Tsuchi and Dona the sea turtle.
Use a slingshot to launch Dona into another ice wall. Pull back and release at the correct angles to hit the top, middle, and bottom, and the ice should break. You need to hit all three areas to break the wall.
Once the wall is broken, Tsuchi will reward you with an ice pick.
Where to use the ice pick
Head back to the Sea People Village and talk to Linchen in the arcade. (This is also where you can race seahorses.) Assuming you’ve done the first sub mission to find Selgio, she’ll tell you that Selgio’s gone missing again and is probably somewhere in the Glacial Passage.
Enter the Glacial Passage from the gate at the top of the Sea People Village and follow the glowing jellyfish until you’re prompted to use the ice pick to free Selgio.
How to beat the ice pick minigame
In order to break the ice and free Selgio, you’ll need to find three weak points in the ice. The locations of the weak points are random, and the only way to tell is to tap randomly on the ice. The bigger the resulting cracks, the closer you are to a weak point. When you do find a weak point, you’ll be rewarded with a satisfying crunch and a large crack.
If you take too many tries, you’ll break the ice pick. Unfortunately, this makes this minigame mostly a game of chance. Keep tapping until you get lucky and are able to quickly find the weak points.
You can keep an eye on your ice pick durability with the bar at the top of the screen. The bar will deplete as you use up your durability. The three star-shaped icons also tell you how many weak points you’ve found.
