The wild beasts of the night prove to be the most challenging foes, using the darkness as coverage. But if you don’t want them to gain the upper hand, here’s how to use a lantern in Dragon’s Dogma 2 to get a fighting chance.
How to toggle lantern on and off in Dragon’s Dogma 2
During the game’s early stages, you’ll earn a lantern to guide you through the darkness. Hold down the interaction to ‘Switch Weapon Skill’ and then select ‘Lantern On.’ Then, hit the same buttons again to turn it off. For all consoles, use these inputs:
- PS5 – L1 + right on D-Pad
- PC – CTRL + R
- Xbox Series X|S – LB + right on D-Pad
With the Weapon Skills open, various options are presented, including Lantern On, Items Menu, and healing items.
Players can also tweak specific inputs via the Control’s Button Mapping section:
As an alternative method, lanterns can be turned on via the menu’s Items section. Select the lantern and press the ‘Light’ option to ignite it. It’s not as straightforward as the previous technique, but it’s there as an option nonetheless.
Pawns will use their lanterns any time you turn yours on. Depending on their skill set, teammates with magical abilities can also illuminate the battlefield for a better look. However, when it comes to the lantern, it will mandate oil, which will slowly diminish with each use.
How to get and use Lantern Oil in Dragon’s Dogma 2
Lantern Oil can be purchased from merchants, crafted with various ingredients, or found as loot. Most shops typically have this for sale at 100 G, but the price could fluctuate depending on the location and the character’s relationship with the merchant. To get it for free, select the Use Recipe section via the Item’s Combined interaction. Suitable ingredients, including a combination of rotten ingredients, will be listed here.
To add oil to a lantern in Dragon’s Dogma 2, select the lantern in the Items section and press ‘Add Oil.’
The description will also indicate how much oil the lantern has. For example, it will state, “Currently has plenty of oil” when fully loaded.
