Being able to actually walk through your town in Manor Lords was an often touted feature in the days around its announcement. Since those days, it is less talked about. However, it wasn’t cut. It’s in the Early Access, it just isn’t immediately obvious.
You can access the third-person walking mode at any time, even immediately after starting a new game. You simply have to click the eye button next to your avatar’s portrait in the top-right of the screen. You’ll then be plopped down as a generic noble guy and can walk around and sightsee.
That’s about it. The third-person perspective gives you just that: a third-person look at your town. You can’t interact with anything in this mode, nor can you fight. It’s simply a perspective change.
At the time of writing, Manor Lords also warns you that this is an experimental feature and that you can expect glitches. I didn’t experience much out of the ordinary during my playtime, but that doesn’t mean this statement is misleading. It’s just important to keep in mind that it’s not a fully polished feature, and it is subject to change.
However, it does allow you to admire how detailed Manor Lords is. It’s a pretty nice-looking game, and the ability to walk from one town to the next along a forest trail and over hills and rivers is quite enjoyable. To be honest, it’s something I always wanted from my city-builders. I don’t necessarily care if it isn’t complex, I just like to see it from a worm’s eye perspective.
