Two of the most memorable appearances at E3 2019 were Keanu Reeves at the Cyberpunk 2077 showcase, and Ikumi Nakamura talking about GhostWire: Tokyo during Bethesda’s conference. Full of genuine passion and levity that is rarely seen in gaming conferences, people fell in love with these moments as they represented the joy that gaming can bring to the world. Sadly, it looks like some of that joy will have to be squashed.
In a post on her Twitter account, Nakamura announced that she will be leaving developer Tango Gameworks, the studio responsible for GhostWire. From her brief explanation, it seems that Nakamura reached a creative plateau and was ready to move on from her nine-year tenure at that studio. While I’m saddened that her work on the Shinji Mikami directed horror has come to an end, at least she seems hopeful about the future.
If you happen to be in the market for a new creative director for your own studio, why not give her LinkedIn page a look? Nakamura seems eager to get back into the fray and her portfolio is certainly loaded with great titles. Here’s to her future!
