The only thing missing is narration from David Attenborough
“Be careful on what you put in your mouth, in general. You may be poisoned.”
These are words to live by from Patrice Désilets, creative director of Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey. The Assassin Creed creator’s new third-person adventure is “getting closer to release,” and that means it’s finally coming into focus. Panache Digital shared the first in a series of overview videos today.
This trailer is about exploration, while the next two will cover expanding territory and evolution.
Set 10 million years ago at the “dawn of humankind,” Ancestors is an exploration-driven survival game about being “observant, careful, agile and wise.” When it comes down to it, it’s really a game about eating and not being eaten (or, uh, poisoned). You’ll grow your clan, pass down knowledge from generation to generation, and evolve over millions of years. My Tokyo Jungle senses are tingling.
“These videos are here to scratch the surface of the main pillars of the game without spoiling anything for you,” according to Désilets. “I truly believe that discovering something for the first time is part of what makes this game unique and exciting. That’s why we say ‘Good luck, we won’t help you much!'”
The footage in and of itself doesn’t look particularly eye-catching, but I’m still on board knowing that we’ve seen only bits and pieces and there’s a larger, more interesting concept at hand. It sounds fascinating on paper, at least. I hope Ancestors turns out well and people are willing to take a chance.
