A Helldivers 2 fan has created a short CGI movie inspired by the game that absolutely nails the feeling of dropping into every single mission. While the game itself has a satirical humor that runs throughout most elements, it’s hard to ignore what it must feel like being a lone Helldiver dropping onto a planet filled with enemies, forced to be ready to fight them all at a moment’s notice.

Helldivers 2 fans can’t get enough of Spill it All, the fan-made CGI movie inspired by the game

Spill it All is the fan-made CGI movie Helldivers 2 fans have been gushing over this weekend. It popped up on the game’s Subreddit and has garnered 27,000 views in the last 24 hours. I’m almost certain that most of these views come from players watching it as they wait to start a mission in the game. I’ve certainly watched it more than a few times while doing this.

The movie resonates with players so much because it focuses on the Helldiver, not the ship that players control, not Super Earth, and not an intangible Democracy Officer checking Procreation Permits. It follows a lone Helldiver in their Hellpod as it’s shot out of a ship in orbit and descends to the planet below. The Helldiver diligently checks their logs, nervously twitches their finger in preparation for calling in Stratagems, and awaits that moment after touchdown when the Hellpod opens and spits them out into the middle of a warzone.

The movie shows this small part of the Helldivers 2 universe as particularly grimdark, similar to the Warhammer 40K universe. After all, Helldivers do their training, are frozen in stasis, and jump directly into a Hellpod at an undetermined point in the future before potentially dying within seconds on an alien world. They are fodder for the Super Earth meat grinder, and Spill it All showcases the combination of unwavering loyalty and deep-seated fear every Helldiver experiences in those 60 or so seconds.

KC, an architectural designer who does 3D movies on the side, created the short film for YouTube. In fact, the movie is so good that the Subreddit moderators made an exception for KC when it comes to posting links. “Part of the rules are that we make exceptions for high-quality content. The self-promotion rule is mostly there so the sub isn’t flooded with “subscribe to my YouTube” gameplay videos etc. You may post your links : )”

The movie captures many emotions in a little more than 60 seconds, and it doesn’t even address any of the game’s story elements, such as Operation Swift Disassembly. If this is the baseline, the future is bright for fan-made Helldivers 2 movies that go beyond the Hellpod.
