Insomniac partners with EA for future 360, PS3 title

Insomniac Games has announced today that its partnered with Electronic Arts to bring a “brand new universe and franchise” to both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Little beyond the fact that it’s happening is known at this time.

“You may be wondering why we’re announcing this game now, and how it relates to our existing projects,” Ted Price said in a statement posted online. “We’ve been developing games on an annual pace during the last 16 years. One thing that has become apparent to us though is that in order to live up to our own high standards of quality, we want to give ourselves more development time to iterate and polish our games. All future Insomniac titles will benefit from longer development cycles, which will directly benefit you, our fans.”

The announcement comes as a bit of a shock, especially considering everyone had considered the PlayStation 3-exclusive Resistance 3 to be a lock. And it may very well still be — Insomniac recently opened up offices in North Carolina, and it’s not out of the question that the studio is working on multiple projects.

“Our relationship with Sony Computer Entertainment is still very strong,” Price added, “and continues as we develop additional projects exclusively for PlayStation 3 — projects that will take full advantage of our additional development time.”

No word on when this project with EA Partners will be revealed, but we’ll be keeping our eyes on this extremely interesting (and exciting) development.
