Sure, we all know that the upcoming Full House dating sim, Kimmy Gibler’s Adventure in Romance, and the highly anticipated Golden Girls first-person shooter, Attack on the Lanai, are going to be huge, international hits … but how will a videogame based on critically adored (and Chad approved!) sitcom The Office fare?
Well, developer MumboJumbo (of Luxor fame) hopes it will fare darn well as it just announced it will be bringing the funniest show on television to a Nintendo DS, PSP, and PC near you by fall of this year.
In the game, players will control bobblehead versions of the sitcom’s main characters, handling jobs and playing practical jokes around the Dunder-Mifflin virtual office. Um, yay?
Says MumboJumbo VP of product development Mike Suarez:
We were anxious to expand our audience with a property that has broad appeal and works well as a game. It will help us to demonstrate that casual games are the true mass videogame market.
I still have no idea how anyone could think The Office would translate well do a videogame, but given my love for all things Kelly, I am going to give everyone involved in this random creative decision the benefit of the doubt.
What do you all think? Is a videogame based on a sitcom a disaster waiting to happen, or could this game start a new, successful trend in the industry (Family Ties RPG!)?
