Perpetually hungry pink blob and portable game icon Kirby may be getting a full Wii outing, according to Nintendo’s latest release schedule. Hoshi no Kirby (or Kirby of the Stars in English) has been listed for the Wii as part of Nintendo’s financial results briefing, tipping the world off to a brand new console game for the spherical monster muncher.
Kirby of the Stars is the name of an anime that ran in 2001. It was created by Warpstar Inc. and ran on 4Kids TV in North America (edited like crazy, of course) under the name Kirby: Right Back at Ya!
Whether or not this Hoshi no Kirby game is based on the anime remains to be seen, but it would seem likely, given the identical name. We have no further details on the game at present, as no release date has been given and the game’s name has been dropped multiple times in the past as welll. Even though its name was whispered during E3 2009, nothing came of it. It’s good to know Nintendo hasn’t forgotten.
I’ve always got time for Kirby, so I’m hoping it’ll actually turn up this year. Oh, and get a listing for territories outside of Japan. That’d be nice.

[Update: Oops, looks like I “over-researched” this one. Hoshi no Kirby is, as several readers pointed out, the name of the entire Kirby series in Japan, not just the anime. That’s what I get for trying to be too clever!]
