X does not mark the spot
Although Octopath Traveler initially released exclusively for the Nintendo Switch, it expanded to several other platforms down the line. It debuted on PC in 2018, and it eventually found its way to Xbox in 2021. In fact, Game Pass subscribers have been able to enjoy Octopath Traveler for free as part of the service! Given that Octopath Traveler completely skipped the PlayStation to appear on Microsoft’s console, RPG fans would naturally want to know if the sequel will appear on their platform of choice.
Unfortunately, we have some rough news for Xbox owners. Although Octopath Traveler 2 is coming out the gate as a multiplatform release this time, you’re going to need another system to play it.
Octopath Traveler 2 is skipping the Xbox
Octopath Traveler 2 is available on the Switch, PS4, PS5, and PC. Square Enix has unfortunately omitted the Xbox this time around, so it won’t be appearing on Game Pass. In fact, Octopath Traveler is no longer part of Xbox Game Pass as of February 28. The game is still available to purchase on Xbox, but if you have unfinished business on the continent of Orsterra, we recommend tying up loose ends before it leaves the service.
This isn’t to say Octopath Traveler 2 will never appear on the console. After all, the first game appeared on Xbox nearly three years after its Switch debut. That said, if you want to experience Octopath Traveler 2 in the immediate future, plan on getting it on a different platform.
