Since its release, Phasmophobia has become one of the most popular co-op horror games, especially among Paranormal fans. However, despite its success, it is still only available on PC. Despite being announced as coming to console, it’s been delayed and still remains on PC only. Those hoping to see it come to console may be wondering: Is Phasmophobia still coming to Xbox and PS5? Here’s everything we know so far about the pending release and console delays.
Will Phasmophobia be released on Xbox and PlayStation 5?
Back in July 2023, Kinetic Games released a trailer announcing that Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PlayStation VR2 versions of Phasmophobia were on the way with a release timeframe of August 2023. Like the PC version, the console version would be released in Early Access until the game was ready for full launch.
However, on August 24, 2023, Lead Developer Dknighter posted an update on the console release on the Phasmophobia Discord server indicating it would be delayed until October.
Dear Phasmophobia Community,
First and foremost, we’d like to thank you all for your support and that you are just as excited as we are for the console release.
Due to a recent fire incident in our office building and unpredicted development issues, our ability to test and develop has been significantly impacted.
After careful consideration we have made the tough decision to delay the console release, initially set for August, while we get everything sorted. We are now aiming for a special launch during the week leading up to Halloween this October. This gives us the needed time to perfect and fine-tune everything. Your patience and understanding mean everything to us, and we can’t wait to bring Phasmophobia to consoles.
The Phasmophobia Development Team.
-Dknighter, Lead Developer at Kinetic Games
Well, as you know, we’re now a few months into 2024, and Phasmophobia has still not been released on console.
Is Phasmophobia console release delayed again?
On October 17, 2023, developer Kinetic Games released their 15th development preview update on Phasmophobia’s Steam blog. In a section titled Console Update, the developer detailed the struggle to adapt to being a remote company since the fire incident a few months prior, as well as some unforeseen challenges in porting the game to consoles. Furthermore, optimization issues were becoming a challenge for the PlayStation VR2 version, which also required more time.
As such, the console version of Phasmophobia has been delayed indefinitely. It’s still being worked on, but there is no concrete release timeframe at the moment. Since then, there have been two more developer preview updates. The first one, in January, simply confirmed the console version was still not ready, but that they would let players know as soon as it was. The second, in February, did not mention the console version of Phasmophobia at all.
With everything we know, it appears that Phasmophobia the Xbox and PS5 versions of Phasmophobia are still a thing, but may not be coming out anytime soon.
