Grab your Pirate Hat because Ubisoft’s online pirate adventure Skull and Bones is finally here. With the Open Beta kicking off on February 8 and the full release on February 16, there are some questions. In the age of so many PC gaming platforms, you may be wondering: Is Skull and Bones on Steam? Here’s what we know about the available platforms now and in the future.
Can you get Skull and Bones on Steam?
Skull and Bones is not on Steam, because it is developed by Ubisoft which has its own Ubisoft Connect client. If you are looking to play on a PC, you will have to get the game either directly through Ubisoft via Ubisoft Connect and the Ubi Store, or through the Epic Games Store client. Keep in mind that even if you purchase through the Epic Games Store Client, it will require you to download Ubisoft Connect to play as it utilizes the Ubisoft servers.
Another option if you want to try out the game is subscribing to Ubisoft+ which is Ubisoft’s gaming subscription service. The monthly subscription includes access to all newly released Ubisoft games which includes Skull and Bones, and access will last as long as you stay subscribed.
Can the Ubisoft Connect and Epic Games Store play together?
Because the game uses Ubisoft dedicated servers, there is full cross-platform support across all platforms. This means that no matter which PC version you are on you can play together, as can those on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
It’s highly unlikely Steam support will ever be added. However, if it is, because Skull and Bones use Ubisoft dedicated servers, it’s very likely it would as well and thus would be cross-platform too. All platforms can play Skull and Bones together on the same servers, which is definitely nice.
So while Skull and Bones is not on Steam, you do have plenty of options to purchase and jump into the game.
