Following its streaming/digital debut back in May of 2023, the Super Mario Bros. movie is coming to Netflix. Here’s everything we know.
The Super Mario Bros. movie debuts on Netflix on December 3
In a big win for Netflix, the billion-dollar success story that will inevitably spawn a ton of other copycats is coming to the service on December 3, 2023. The company announced the move itself on its social accounts, noting: “For the families that go a little too hard on Mario Kart over the holidays, The Super Mario Bros. Movie will be on Netflix to help the healing. December 3!”
Interestingly, the Mario movie is also streaming on Peacock, part of its parent company Universal (who released the film). Right now the banner states that it’s streaming “only on Peacock,” but that will obviously change come December 3. This is part of the breakdown of the streaming era, where every company thought they could make their own streaming service in perpetuity, only to license out content back to Netflix – the circle is complete.
It’s prime Mario time
You could spend the entire month of December doing Mario-related things if you wanted to! Super Mario Wonder is out and still fresh in everyone’s minds, plus the last round of the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe season pass is live. It’s one of Mario’s biggest years ever for sure, and given the teaser at the end of the Mario movie (and the box office receipts!), we’ll be seeing more of him and this crew for a long while.
