Itagaki hints at upcoming Ninja Gaiden 2 demo

At this year’s Tokyo Game Show, we had a chance to get some alone time with Ninja Gaiden 2 assistant producer, Yoshifuru Okamoto, who showed us a live demo of the upcoming Xbox 360 exclusive. The key words here are “showed us,” meaning that we haven’t actually had a chance to get our grubby little hands on a controller to see how the game feels.

It looks good, with fast action and blood-splattering limb removal, but that doesn’t mean too much to us — we want to play the damned thing, already. Series producer and Team Ninja pimp daddy Tomonobu Itagaki agrees.

“I’m not one to comment and say ‘this is great’ and ‘that’s great’ and ‘my game has got these amazing elements’,” he tells IGN via a translator in a recent video interview. “That’s not something I would say out of nowhere, that’s something that the games really speak for themselves. Look at the trailer … look at the game play. That’s why we have things like downloadable demos out there, [and] that will be coming at some point.”

While we’d like to see the demo soon, it’s more likely we’ll get it closer to its nebulous 2008 release date. As Itagaki points out, Team Ninja are still “sharpening Ninja Gaiden 2 like a blade,” so it’s probably not a good idea to hold your breath … unless you’re submerged underwater. In that case, go to town.
