Kickstarter game TUG wants to create worlds

Exploration, discovery, crafting, survival, role-playing, adventure, and science

We’ve covered a lot of Kickstarter projects recently on Destructoid, but none in recent memory have been quite as ambitious as Nerd Kingdom’s TUG. The single sentence description that has been bandied about is “it’s like Minecraft with better graphics,” but the six-minute video above shows that the idea is a bit more lofty than that.

With a team of social scientists involved, from disciplines including psychology, sociology, and economics, Nerd Kingdom aims to create living worlds that react to the players’ actions in meaningful ways. It isn’t entirely clear how TUG intends to achieve that, but the team certainly has time to work on it. If the project hits its $215,000 goal, it is expected to release around January of 2015.

To be honest, I’m not sure what to think about this one. The world building tech they have developed thus far looks pretty impressive, but everything else seems to exist only as words and ideas. This one will be an interesting one to watch, no matter how the story plays out.
