Greenlit and ready for action

Nigoro’s 2012 remake of La-Mulana finally has a release date on Steam. Initially unable to secure a spot in the marketplace, the game was approved through Greenlight in the fourth wave of titles announced to transition to the online store back in January. The Steam release will take advantage of cloud saving features and expands language options to include Russian and Spanish, in addition to the original Japanese and English.

This is good for Nigoro, but horrible for me. I have been slowly working my way through La-Mulana for more than six months now, opening the game as little as once a month sometimes. I make tiny progress with every load, and then put it away until the next time I think about it. Now that it’s going to be in my Steam library, I’m going to see it there, calling to me, daring me to disappear into the ruins for hours more. I’ll think about it all the time. You should see the map I’ve been making. Absurd wouldn’t begin to describe it.

But, of course, it does mean much wider exposure for a stellar game that should be played by anyone who grew up with action platformers from the 80’s and 90’s and wants something that can still challenge them the way those classic games did. Who am I to argue with that?
