Limited Run Games announced as part of their LRG3 stream that they will be localizing Assault Suit Leynos 2 for the first time in North America. This looks like they’ll be publishing a translated version of Assault Suit Leynos 2 Saturn Tribute, which released in Japan earlier this year.
Assault Suit Leynos 2 is the third game in the Assault Suit series. In the West, we’d remember the first two games as Target Earth and Cybernator, but were actually Assault Suit Leynos and Assault Suits Valken, respectively. It’s part of a series of sci-fi mech games. I’ve talked about Cybernator/Assault Suits Valken about a jillion times here on Destructoid. The series has seen something of a Western resurgence.
While Assault Suit Leynos 2 Saturn Tribute is largely a port of the Sega Saturn version of the game, quality-of-life features have been added, such as saving, loading, a rewinding. There are also option difficulty adjustments.
More importantly, we never got Leynos 2 in English. Our Assault Suit collection has been incomplete. This will bring us one step closer. Then the only thing missing is Assault Suits Valken 2, which is weirdly very similar to the Front Mission series. But then, Front Mission: Gun Hazard is extremely similar to Assault Suits Valken (because most of the staff is the same). So really, they were just returning the favor.
But seriously, somebody translate and re-release Valken 2.
Assault Suit Leynos 2 Saturn Tribute is out in North America sometime later in 2024. It’s coming to PS4, PS5, and Switch.
