Second Life must be going through some hard times indeed. According to a press release, Linden Labs is cutting its workforce by roughly 30%.
According to CEO Mark Kingdon, the restructuring will free the company to pursue new projects. Specifically, Kingdon made mention of 3D applications, which I’m sure will be delightful fun for all and migraine-inducing for me. In addition, they will be working to extend Second Life into other social networking systems.
Second Life isn’t a game to me so much as it is a … thing. I’m fascinated by it but I don’t think I would ever want to participate. I will admit to having briefly considered creating a brothel as a business in the virtual world but, lets be honest, it would never be more than a hobby.
