I think Dale pretty much summed it up regarding MAGFest X which wrapped up yesterday: it was definitely the best yet, and neither of us want to wait for next year. The highlight was Final Fantasy composer Nobuo Uematsu’s band, the Eartbound Papas, taking to the stage on Saturday night and bringing down the house. Now that the event is over, we were able to catch a moment with Uematsu himself to allow him to reflect on their performance and MAGFest overall.
After admitting to getting only a few hours of sleep per night due to late night drinking, he told us he was surprised by how big the event was and that there was nothing quite like it in Japan. He described the crowds at the concert as “Aggressive, but in a good way,” and when asked if he’d be willing to return in the future, replied, “Yes! We’ll go on again tonight!” He seemed just as ecstatic as we were, so let that be an indication that you definitely need to check it out if you missed it this year.
Oh, and the band’s biggest regret? Bringing only 50 copies of the Earthbound Papas CD to sell. They thought the $30 USD price tag and similar sales numbers at Oni-Con a few months back were a good indicator of how the CD would fare at MAGFest, but these sold out in mere hours. I bet they could have sold at least 500!
Did you check out MAGFest X this year and have thoughts about the Eartbound Papas or anything else at the event?
