Magic basically unveiled the next year and a half
Wizards of the Coast has been busy, and there’s a lot of sets coming to Magic: The Gathering in the future, which of course impacts the flow of Magic: Arena. This week the company showed off two video game-centric collaborations: Fortnite and Street Fighter.
Fortnite is getting “two drops,” with reprints as a focus, and we got our first look at an art tease: Cuddle Team Leader dancing in a club. The reprint focus is good for people who dislike Fortnite, as it’s basically all about the art in this case. That’s about all we have to go on for now.
We got a little more info on the Street Fighter set though, including the unveiling of the Chun-Li card, which provides her own unique mechanics. It’s “multikicker,” a take on the previously established kicker mechanic, and “allows you to pay an additional cost any number of times when casting the spell to increase its effect.”
The Fortnite and Street Fighter sets do not have a release date, but they will be a part of the Secret Lair distribution system. This is all on top of the Lord of the Rings promotion that’s coming in 2023, and the previously confirmed Warhammer 40K set.
Beyond that, a ton of new standard legal Magic sets were confirmed. Here’s the breakdown:
- Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty (Q1 2022)
- Streets of new Capenna (Q2 2022)
- Dominaria United (Q3 2022)
- The Brothers War (Q4 2022)
