Sounds like the sequel might lean into the darker side of Spidey
Insomniac Games recently confirmed it’s working on Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 at the recent PlayStation Showcase. And according to a new interview with a Marvel VP, it could go some places.
Marvel vice president of creative Bill Rosemann recently appeared on the This Week In Marvel podcast (as spotted by Eurogamer) to talk about Insomniac’s newly announced projects.
“If the first Spider-Man game was Star Wars, Spider-Man 2 is kind of our Empire,” said Rosemann.
Rosemann also talked a little on the topic of Insomniac’s newly announced Wolverine game, though not revealing very much. He did say there are some details and “Easter eggs” to find, though.
With Venom making an appearance in the Spider-Man 2 trailer, and Kraven the Hunter theorized as the narrator, it’s not a surprise this story might get a bit darker. That said, it’s not like Marvel’s Spider-Man or the Miles Morales spin-off were all that lighthearted, either.
Still, with symbiote in play, it will be intriguing to see where Insomniac goes with its version of the creepy, crawly Venom. Picking up Tony Todd, well-known from the Candyman movies, is certainly a step in the right direction.
Marvel in general keeps moving stronger into video games, as both these Marvel games are joined by October’s Guardians of the Galaxy and next year’s Midnight Suns in fleshing out the Marvel video game universe. With Marvel’s Avengers heading to Game Pass soon too, it seems like there’s going to be a lot of Marvel to go around in games over the next few years.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is targeting a launch sometime in 2023.
