Mass Effect novel ‘Deception’ to be released this Fall

Del Rey Books has announced a fourth Mass Effect novel: Mass Effect: Deception. Instead of being written by Drew Karpyshyn — who wrote the previous three books and has his hands full with The Old Republic — William C. Dietz has received the honor to write the new Mass Effect book.

Dietz has written many sci-fi novels and quite a few videogame-themed books, such as Jedi Knight, Halo: The Flood, Hitman: Enemy Within, and Resistance: The Gathering Storm. Deception will follow Gillian Grayson from the Ascension novel once again:

Gillian was once the subject of horrifying scientific experiments, but now, after her rescue, she is beginning to master her amazing powers. When she falls under the sway of a radical group who believe their powers make them superior to ordinary humans, she finds herself faced with a choice between her destiny…and her humanity.

It’s vaguely reminiscent of Jack’s personal history in Mass Effect 2, who had one of the more interesting backgrounds in the game. And as the cover the of upcoming novel features the Illusive Man, and Cerberus ran the experiments she was a subject of, you can bet your sweet ass the the nefarious organization is involved somehow.

Although Del Ray only announced the book for “this Fall” William C. Dietz’s website states September 27th.
