Masaya Matsuura may not be a household name even in most gaming households, but when you say that he’s the man behind PaRappa the Rapper then most people’s ears pick up as they know the man has some serious cred in the music game business. While his most recent title, Major Minor’s Majestic March, may not have been the groundbreaking music game of this generation like PaRappa was, it still clearly showed that the man has some very creative ideas of where rhythm games can go. Thus, when he says Natal could be a fantastic platform for music games we should probably listen a bit more closely.
Speaking at the Develop Conference in Brighton the NanaOn-Sha president said of Natal, “It’s very interesting. We are thinking about ideas. I think any kind of interaction with a camera will be good for music games, but the important thing will be how we can find the new breed of gameplay. That will be a very important thing.”
“Guitar Hero and Rock Band and The Beatles: Rock Band, is just taking traditional rock music. Of course there are so many rock fans on the earth, so they will have a huge impact for the market. But there is other attractive music, so please try to find another style, another interaction, another gameplay with another type of music.”
He’s got a valid point with the whole “other world of music being out there that really isn’t tapped into by Rock Band“ thing. What do you think? Fancy conducting an orchestra via Natal? Or maybe leading an entire marching band with more than just your arm? Ever since I stopped using Wii Fit‘s walking program I’ve been itching to march in place to a beat some more.
