A second studio to be opened on Malta
Metro: Last Light developer 4A Games is in the process of opening a second studio on the island nation of Malta. The new location will serve as the company’s headquarters moving forward, while the existing studio in Kiev, Ukraine continues operations.
“By basing our new headquarters in Malta, a member state of the EU, 4A Games will be able to better compete on the international stage” said Dean Sharpe, 4A Games’ CEO and head of business development. “Malta offers fantastic incentives for game development, and we are confident 4A Games will be able to attract the very best talent from Ukraine, Malta and beyond.”
Several key members of the Kiev office, including creative director and co-founder Andrew Prokhorov, and CTO Oles Shishkovstov; will relocate to the Mediterranean isle to oversee the new enterprise.
“This marks the start of a new chapter for 4A Games,” said Prokhorov. “We are proud of our achievements as a young studio, and humbled by the response to our output so far. The team is looking forward to this new adventure.”
It seems the developer is eager to put distance between itself and the ongoing violence and political turmoil in Ukraine. The situation must be unimaginably difficult for all those involved, as the company continues work on unannounced projects amidst the upheaval.
