Square Enix confirms
Ever since Microsoft’s gamescom exclusivity reveal, there’s been plenty of speculation about the state of Rise of the Tomb Raider. Although it was soon found out to be a timed-exclusive, there are still many uncertainties surrounding the deal. A large detail surfaced today that might give some indication as to how everything will play out.
According to a tweet from Xbox marketing head Aaron Greenberg, Microsoft is the publisher of Rise of the Tomb Raider. IP owner Square Enix later confirmed this and added “Microsoft has always seen huge potential in Tomb Raider and they will get behind this game with more support across development, marketing and retail than ever before, which we believe will be a step in continuing to build the Tomb Raider franchise as one of the biggest in gaming.”
It’s still up in the air as to what other platforms Rise of the Tomb Raider will come to. Given the fact that Microsoft is publishing the game and likely taking care of marketing and distribution, it’s reasonable to assume that PC only is more feasible than PC and PS4. But, Microsoft hasn’t yet given any clarification yet, and will likely keep attention focused on its consoles as long as possible.
