Crescent Moon Games cites Metroid as an influence
If the idea of exploring a realistic facsimile of Mars isn’t your jam, then perhaps the more fantastic approach that Mines of Mars takes will be a bit more tantalizing. Developer Crescent Moon Games describes it as a “procedural atmospheric mining game” and cites both Metroid and Motherlode as influences.
The music in the trailer definitely has a Metroid feel to it, though the art style reminds me more of Blocks That Matter than anything else. Mines of Mars promises a variety of extraterrestrial flora and fauna, as well as an explanation for why life on Mars had been hidden thus far. Nothing gets me excited like quasi-plausible alien life, especially some so close to home.
Mines of Mars is currently seeking approval on Steam Greenlight.
