No, there were no surprise NX details. But there was a lot of good stuff announced! A couple of Wii U to 3DS ports, some new (and surprising) games like Pikmin, and of course goofy skits in between!

Here’s the Direct, alongside a list of everything that happened, with links to our coverage and official trailers.

  • Recap of some Sun and Moon info, with new stuff like the Aloha version of Rattata, which is Dark/Normal. Fun little backstory included about how this version evolved. Buying the game early will get players Munchlax. Evolving this Munchlax into Snorlax will grant it access to a special Z-Move in which Snorlax sits on his opponents face.
  • Super Mario Maker 3DS announced.
  • Mario Party Star Rush. Details of new modes and all the super interesting stuff that I totally didn’t tune out. Though, it is cool that four people can play the full game locally with only one copy of the game.
  • amiibo functionality in Animal Crossing New Leaf. New wave of Animal Crossing amiibo cards also announced.
  • StreetPass updates! Quick Plaza is added to speed up everything, thank god. It’s also possible to encounter more than 10 people at a time, making going to events like PAX a way better experience for StreetPassers. New StreetPass games were also announced.
  • Tank Troopers announced. Kind of like a cartoon version of World of Tanks mixed with BattleTanx? Looks pretty cool, and comes out this winter.
  • Picross 3D Round 2 announced. Now you can paint things in two colors and find hidden objects and stuff. amiibo functionality is there, and it’s out….today!
  • New Legend of Zelda amiibo. God dammit Nintendo, you got my money again!
  • Dark Horse Comics will release three Legend of Zelda books, the first of which can already be pre-ordered.
  • Skyward Sword is now available on the Wii U eShop.
  • New DLC for the 3DS version of Hyrule Warriors which includes Toon Link’s Sand Wand (and Spirit Tracks attacks?) and Toon Zelda as a playable character. Available today!
  • Brief description of Ace Attorney: Spirit of Justice, coming September 8.
  • Dragon Quest talk. Not much about VIII, but some details on VII. Remade from the ground up, hours of new content, StreetPass dungeons, online distribution events, and don’t forget you can pre-purchase it for a free menu theme! Dragon Quest VII comes out September 16.
  • Bony and Fleshy. Which are you?
  • Disney Magical World 2 (two?!) is headed to 3DS on October 14. IT HAS FREE FROZEN OUTFITS!!
  • Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice gameplay. It looks pretty good! Maybe. Don’t quote me on that. Launches September 27 and comes with a 3 episode DVD in North America.
  • Shin Megami Tensei IV Apocalypse gameplay. First run version of the game come with a cool medal set. The game launches September 20.
  • Yoshi’s Woolly World 3DS announced, coming February 3, 2017 alongside a Poochy amiibo.
  • Ever Oasis details and gameplay. It looks pretty neat and has some great people working on it. Gameplay seems to bounce back and forth between action-adventure dungeon crawling and keeping your oasis nice and bustling.
  • Mario Sports Super Stars looks like it makes just about every other Mario sports title irrelevant. It has soccer, baseball, tennis, golf, and……horse racing. These are “full scale sports,” which makes me feel like a sucker for buying Mario Golf. Releasing spring of 2017.
  • Finally, Pikmin 3DS!
