Miyamoto: Expect a ‘new kind of Mario,’ possibly at E3 next year

NX?

With just Zelda making a big splash at E3 this year, Nintendo has been noticeably quiet on most fronts, but that might not be the case in 2017.

Speaking to IGN, Shigeru Miyamoto noted that, “We’re always challenging ourselves to create something new, so hopefully you’ll see a new kind of Mario in about a year or two…maybe next E3 we’ll be able to share something.” I hope we see an NX blowout of sorts — that could be pretty amazing.

We’ll see, I guess. Even if it’s not actually new, it will probably be good. Super Mario 3D World is still one of the best games I’ve played in this decade, and I’m still waiting for a true 3D Mario follow-up. I’m okay with Mario staying as one of the more traditional tent-pole franchises while Nintendo innovates in other areas.
