Is this a dream?
For a second, I felt like I was trapped in a state between a dream and a nightmare. I guess this was due to Right Stuf revealing some new Gundam-related surprises at Anime Nebraskon ’17.
The biggest one is Gundam UC/Unicorn receiving another Blu-ray release. From the looks of it, this might be an affordable version of the OVA. Thanks to this announcement, more people will get to watch the installment that revealed the secret behind the Universal Century era’s chaos, along with seeing the robot’s beautiful Destroyer Mode transformation sequence.
This reveal may not be a surprise, but it’s nice that they rescued Gundam 00. To top it off, the entire program (including the film) will make its debut on Blu-ray in North America. If anything, its return to Crunchyroll was a sign of thing to come. Even though the movie, Awakening of the Trailblazer, was weak, the rest of the series was great since the main points were resolved. In a way, it was a better take on Gundam Wing’s elements. It helped that we got to learn about the cast’s backstory.
While we’re on the topic of unexpected things, I’m shocked to hear about Gundam Age crossing the pond. Despite the show being written by Level-5 President and Professor Layton series Writer Akihiro Hino, the program ended up being one of the worst Gundam installments. At least the unit being synched to a machine that creates new gear was a neat idea. If anything, this release might be good for those who wanted to own the show.
In the end, it’s good that Right Stuf and Sunrise are still bringing older Gundam shows to North America. At the moment, all three titles are hitting North America in the coming months for Blu-ray and DVD, so we might have to wait until next year.
