ModDB getting into digital distribution with ‘Desura’

Recommended Videos

A new PC-based digital distribution service is entering the market, but this one’s not what you might expect. It’s called Desura, and it’s coming to us from ModDB. Two years in the making and not finalized yet, this application aims to lessen the struggle of getting mods to work with your games.

Desura will contain many of the community features and extras like achievements, stats, and what have you we’ve come to expect from similar services. Interestingly, it’s going to have editors to pick and choose only the “high quality releases,” although any of the less desirable content will always be on the main site.

There’s a quick Q&A on the service, in case you’re longing to hear more. Desura is obviously targeting only a specific sub-section of gaming, but I think it will be one to watch for anyone intrigued by community projects. It’s in private beta currently, and should become set for launch sometime next year.
