Watch Pok?mon X starting tomorrow at 9:00pm Pacific
It was slightly surprising to hear that the Twitch Plays Pokémon community is still active if for no other reason than I thought folks would have beaten all of the games by now. Not quite! There’s still Pokémon X, and without an emulator to run a retail copy of the title, things have gotten interesting. dekuNukem, who created that automated shiny Pokémon finder, is back.
He has modified a 3DS so that the buttons, circle pad, and touch screen can be controlled from an external source, and equipped the handheld with a capture device. Pokémon X — and any future Pokémon 3DS games — can now be crowdsourced through Twitch Plays. Amazing stuff.
Writing in to Destructoid, dekuNukem says “…it’s a great honor that I can contribute to the community and using the experience to make TPPX possible on a real 3DS. And since the game is running on a real 3DS, wireless connectivity will enable stream players to battle or trade with strangers around the world, and passerby are able to influence the stream by offering O-Power or trading. All in all, I believe that the last last TPP is something really special, and online interaction with real players around the world will play a non-neglectable role during the course of TPPX.”
The original Twitch Plays Pokémon featuring Red was one of those had-to-be-there things. It was frustrating and funny to watch, but most of all, I liked the fiction it generated. Might just have to tune in for this final (until the Ruby and Sapphire remakes are out) stream.
It begins tomorrow at 9:00pm Pacific. Excited to see what role Wonder Trading will have in the run, but in the mean time, the channel is hosting Twitch Plays Animal Crossing: New Leaf.
