We’re days away from Halloween, and Monster Hunter Now is getting in on the celebration. From now until October 31, players can take part in the Halloween Pumpkin Hunt event in Niantic and Capcom’s augmented reality mobile game.
While this event doesn’t dramatically change the game, it does give players a few new things to grind for. As of writing, the main goal of the event is to complete special quests to earn Pumpkin Tickets. Here’s what you need to know.
How to get Pumpkin Tickets in the Monster Hunter Now Halloween event
If you open your quest list, you’ll see that the second “Special” tab now has a Pumpkin icon next to it. Don’t worry, your daily quests are still here. However, now you’ll also find another set of quests to gather materials, slay large monsters, and slay monsters. These are your event quests, and you have until the 31st to clear them out.
When you clear these three quests, another set of three will appear in their place. Completing all these quests will give you Pumpkin Tickets, so just keep completing them to refresh the quest list. Fortunately, these are all generic, so even total beginners can participate in the event. You’ll simply have to keep gathering items and slaying monsters both regular and small. There’s quite a bit to grind here, so make sure to not skip any common enemies you see hovering around you.
You can also earn Pumpkin Tickets by defeating Kulu-Ya-Ku until October 31. More on that below.
Once you get one Pumpkin Ticket, the event-exclusive Jack-o’-Head helmet will appear under your armor tab in your active equipment. If you collect 10 Pumpkin Tickets, you can craft the headpiece for yourself.
Is the Jack-o’-Head good?
So the Jack-o’-Head is in a bit of a weird place. It starts as a Grade 2 headpiece and has the exclusive skill Solidarity. This skill will give you a 1% attack boost, with an increase in power when multiple players wear it in a party. However, during the event only, this effect becomes a 5% attack boost instead.
This is, technically, a pretty powerful headpiece during the event. However, after the Monster Hunter Now Halloween event ends on the 31st, the value of this drops off hard. For early-game players, the helmet also consumes other monster materials and occupies the same gear slot as the Kulu Headpiece. This is notable since that Headpiece is your only way to get the skill Lock On until you defeat Rathian. So overall, It’s a bit hard to justify the helmet considering the materials and Zenny that you’d need to upgrade it.
That said, that power boost from the skill is quite good during the event, and you’d only need to upgrade the Jack-o’-Head to improve its defense. So I’d recommend at least crafting it. At the very least, it looks really cool.
Where do you find the special Kulu-Ya-Ku holding a pumpkin-like rock in the Monster Hunter Now Halloween event?
From now until October 31, Kulu-Ya-Ku will hold a pumpkin-like rock when you encounter it. These monsters won’t look any different than a normal Kulu-Ya-Ku on your map, and you may not even see them pick up the Pumpkin if you defeat them too early. Don’t worry about seeing them pick up a Pumpkin, your rewards will be the same regardless.
By defeating Kulu-Ya-Ku at any difficulty, you’ll obtain at least one additional Pumpkin Ticket per encounter. If you want to upgrade the Jack-o’-Head, you’ll want to keep farming these monsters. Otherwise, the main incentive for defeating Kulu-Ya-Kus is for the quest completion.
The Halloween Medal Acquisition Quest guide for Monster Hunter Now
From now until October 31st, another special set of event quests will appear. These quests involve slaying 10 Kulu-Ya-Kus of any difficulty and defeating 20 large monsters while wearing the Jack-o’-Head. As mentioned above, you don’t need to upgrade the Jack-o’-Head unless you need the extra defense. And if you just want to craft it to clear these event quests, you can stick to clearing weaker large monsters. Even one-star encounters will count and earn Pumpkin Tickets.
After you clear these quests, another set will not appear. So don’t stress too hard trying to clear these out, and pace yourself from now until the 31st. You’ll earn a total of 4000 Zenny and 400 rank EXP, so they’re definitely worth the effort. But if you can’t finish the quest, there’s nothing super unique you’re missing out on here, so only play if you’re able to!
