The current figure includes shipments and digital sales
Capcom has announced that the Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak expansion just hit two million in sales (with Rise reaching the 10-million-sales milestone), and to celebrate, a free Sunbreak gift is on the way on July 7 (in the form of “two item packs”).
The news comes straight from Capcom’s own site, where the publisher gloats a bit about how far the franchise has come as a whole:
“Beginning with the first title in 2004, the series established a new genre in which players cooperate to hunt ferocious monsters with their friends and has since grown into a global phenomenon with cumulative sales of the series exceeding 84 million units shipped as of July 5, 2022.”
As a recap, currently, Monster Hunter Rise is soundly in the top five all-time sales list for Capcom, with the old figure of nine million units sold. If the 10 million mark fully clears and the site is updated, it’ll surpass Resident Evil 2 and sit just below Resident Evil 7 (10.80 million units) in third place. From there, it likely will beat out RE7, then it’ll have to take on Monster Hunter World‘s 21 million units (previously 18 million, before today’s figure) to supplant the top spot.
[Update: Capcom has given us another update roughly a week later. Now on July 13, 2022, the company is reporting that Sunbreak hit the three million shipped mark, and another free item pack is on the way.]
