Last week, we found out that Pac-Man & Galaga Dimensions for 3DS had become the first game to copy Capcom’s controversial single-save scheme, whereby the cartridge comes with one block of data that can never be erased. Namco has since confirmed this, and said … very little to justify itself.
“There is no way to erase the save from within the game itself without misusing the hardware, causing corruption,” a company rep told Shack, promising dire consequences for anybody who wants to have some control over a product they’ve paid money for.
The company believes that its solo save slot isn’t an issue, however: “It takes a very long time to get high scores on all the games to fill up the rankings as each game is a stand-alone title. [Each game] would take an average person 8-10 hours depending on skill level to max out. With 6 games, that’s 60+ hours to fill up everything with good high scores.”
Unlike Capcom, Namco has not addressed used gaming at all, which I feel betrays the publisher’s intentions. This is the reason why I personally won’t be purchasing this game, despite originally having plans to. I feel too strongly about the importance of the used game market to support something that so directly attacks it.
