Nearly an hour of Final Fantasy XV gameplay was just released

If you just can’t wait to play it yourself

In the recent delay announcement, director Hajime Tabata said they would release a 30-minute video on August 16. He lied: it’s 52 minutes. If you’re itching for anything Final Fantasy XV-related, this should tide you over. I’m here to share it with you guys, but personally I won’t be watching it.

For me, I like to go in to games I want to play knowing as little as possible, and believe me, I really want to play Final Fantasy XV. The more you know about a game going in, the less there is to discover. If I watch the first hour of gameplay, it will basically be spoiling the first hour of the game for me. I love the feeling of going into a new world with no expectations and little knowledge, exploring the game and discovering new characters, mechanics, towns, and so on on my own.

There is a valid argument in wanting to verify the quality of a product before investing your time and money into it. So it’s not like I haven’t seen any footage or trailers. But if after a few looks I’m sold on it, I stop taking in information. And Final Fantasy is a brand I trust (yes, I’m one of the few who enjoyed the XIII series). I hope footage like this will help people who haven’t seen much yet make their decision on whether or not to buy the game, but who’s with me? I’m not alone here, right?

As an aspiring games journalist, perhaps I shouldn’t be saying negative things about gaming news and information…by the way Destructoid is an amazing site! In all seriousness, I’m not saying to never look at anything, but I think how much information you know going into a certain type of game plays a significant factor, such as in an RPG where exploration and discovery play a big role (pun totally intended). Of course this whole point becomes moot with other types of games like sports games, racing games, and perhaps fighting games (though I wish secret characters would stay secret *cough* Smash Bros. *cough*), where there’s not a whole lot to spoil or show off.

Anyway, have at it about what you think of the footage in the trailers. I’ll be over in the corner with my eyes closes and hands over my ears yelling “LALALA I CAN’T HEAR YOU.”
