Netflix delivered the first look at its animated Tomb Raider sequel series during a showcase today. It’s brief, but undoubtedly looking faithful to the games. Lara Croft looks busy raiding tombs, using a bow, and looking cool in front of a fire I hope she didn’t set by accident. It’s the recent trilogy, so it’s certainly possible.
It’s clear the show will follow familiar Tomb Raider beats. Lara, played by Hayley Atwell (Agent Carter, Black Mirror), is shown delving into another ancient mystery. Heading deep into the earth, Lara is tracking down something apparently tied to a supernatural power.
The Netflix series takes place after the recent Tomb Raider trilogy
Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft canonically takes place after the recent reboot trilogy. Following up on 2018’s Shadow of the Tomb Raider, we’ll likely witness Lara as she comes to terms with her troubled history. The trailer does offer a hint with what appears to be Lara reminiscing over a photo of old allies.
It’s not much to go on, even though it’s been two years since the show’s announcement. The series is written by The Witcher Blood Origin‘s Tasha Huo, who’s also the executive producer. Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft is co-produced by Legendary Television, the studio behind The Expanse and Pacific Rim: The Black.
Today’s announcement pairs with a handful of other first looks and reveals by the streaming company. Netflix premiered many more trailers, including those for Castlevania: Nocturne and Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix.
