Capcom may not be the titan of 2D artwork that they were in the 90’s and 00’s, but the legacy of their past illustration focus lives on at Udon. The studio is responsible for the most (and arguably the best) hand-drawn Capcom artwork released in the past few years. Everything from the re-drawn characters of Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD, to the endings of Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom, to any number of Street Fighter and Darkstalkers-based comics currently on the market; Udon’s has proven their love and dedication to Capcom time and time again.
These guys got into drawing thanks to “Mooks” like Capcom Illustrations (a book that I read so much as a teenager that literally wore out the binding) so it makes sense that their putting out their own Capcom art books today. If you want to learn to drawn the Udon way, get a closer look at the art that’s gone into Udon’s many comics and games, and want to see how awesome Super Street Fighter IV would have looked with (gasp!) sprite-based graphics, then you have to buy this book.
I know I will.
