The Dreamcast is dead. The American public drove a stake through its heart, Sony decapitated it, and Sega stuffed its mouth full of garlic. As we watched it burst into flames six years ago, I had a feeling we hadn’t seen the last of it and much like the subject of this metaphor, Sega’s failed console is back (and possibly thirsty for blood).
French developer The Alice Company has been working on a title by the name of Dynamite Dreams. As you can see from the above video the game looks like a low rent Bomberman clone, but when your console can only be resurrected by bathing in the exsanguinated fluid of virgins, you take what you can get.
Personally, I love the Dreamcast. Behind the original Genesis, it’s my favorite console of all time, and while the PlayStation 2 saw some amazing games, I think had the DC not being Helsing’d so early in its life, it would have served as a fertile platform for the sort of bizarre, creative gameplay we saw in titles like Jet Grind Radio and Power Stone. No matter how Dynamite Dreams turns out, we applaud The Alice Company for rolling the stone away from the Dreamcast’s tomb, if only so that I could tie this post into my current viewing of The Lost Boys.
