Give me that Blue Crystal
Sony Interactive Entertainment announced today that a new line of DualShock 4 color variants will be rolling out this fall. In particular, the fan-favorite translucent variants will be returning once again, showing off the internals of the lovely controller. However, the availability of each will vary from region to region.
For North America, each of these will be exclusive to a single retailer. For Europe, it may depend on where you live.
First off, one of the variants is not exactly new. The base Crystal variant was released last year for a limited time in Europe. However, the new release this year has new bells and whistles, such as offering direct USB and wireless control options and a redesigned touch pad that reveals the light bar from above. So even those that picked one up last year potentially have a reason to grab the new release.
The three variants will be coming out this month in North America, and will each be exclusive to a retailer. Crystal will only be available at GameStop, or at EB games if you’re in Canada. Blue Crystal, which is the best one, will be at Walmart, while Red Crystal will be at Best Buy. Meanwhile, they will release in Europe on October 17, however with two very big restrictions. The entire range will not be available in Russia, while Red and Blue Crystal will not be available in the UK. No reason was given as to why, but that is bizarre, especially since the UK was showing a lot of love for the exclusive Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy since its release.
I’ll probably be picking up the Crystal Blue variant myself. I like the look of it, and it’s always good to have a back up in case something happens. Having a second controller may also encourage me to pick up more games with local multiplayer as well.
