New Dynasty Warriors game is less bashing, more clicking

I think we need a new system for genres

Dynasty Warriors has been going for about as long as Japan itself. You are basically an anime samurai superhero, running around slashing a bajillion dudes who stand around waiting to take it like the masochists they are. The latest entry, Dynasty Warriors: Godseekers (known in Japan as Dynasty Warriors: Eiketsuden), is now officially coming west for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita. Americans can slash dudes on January 31, 2017 and Europeans can ‘give em what for’ on February 1, 2017.

This isn’t your senpai’s Dynasty Warrior’s though. This one is more tactical with grid movement, like an okonomiyaki mix of Romance of the Three Kingdoms and Fire Emblem. This large series is one of many sitting on my backlog, but I don’t think I’ll be adding this game. It looks fine, but I’ve never been a fan of such RTS games. I prefer to have agency and direct control in battle rather than pointing, clicking, and watching the computer roll dice.

Last year Koei Tecmo trademarked the name “Godseekers” for Europe and many speculated it was for the Attack on Titan game. Seems like perhaps this is what it was for. So if they were planning a western release for so long, why wait til now to announce it?
