When Nintendo first announced their Play it on Wii series — a line of GameCube games being ported for play exclusively on the Wii — we weren’t sure if these games would see any Wii-specific updates.
It’s already been confirmed that Donkey Kong Jungle Beat (which releases in Japan tomorrow) has received some upgrades, including new and altered levels, as well as a different control scheme. Now Famitsu is reporting that the upcoming Play on Wii versions of Pikmin and Mario Power Tennis will be seeing some new features as well.
In the case of Pikmin, saving will allow you to store day-by-day records of your play; players will now be able to start on the day of their choice. Mario Power Tennis has been given full Wii Remote compatibility, which means you can swing it like a tennis racket. The game will even take into account angles and such; you can play with or without the nunchuck as well, the later likely having your characters through A.I. (similar to Wii Tennis).
Pikmin and Mario Power Tennis release have been confirmed for North America in 2009, and it seems like an obvious move for Nintendo (although it doesn’t really help the whole “two GameCubes duct-taped together” thing). Are there any GameCube games you’d like to see come to the Wii, and what console specific updates would you expect?
