New PS3 price asks Canadians to grab their ankles (update)

I’m not sure if its our weird Monopoly-like money or our cute one and two dollar coins that Sony marketers love so much, but its obvious that Sony loves Canadian money more than American, because why else would they ask for more of it.

Sony has hiked the price on the Playstation 3 60 GB unit in Canada from $649.99 to $699.99 in a very head-up-their-butts move recently. Both Future Shop and Best Buy are listing the console at the new price which has myself and probably other gamers hugging their Xbox 360s and Nintendo Wiis for being so cheap.

I personally gave my Xbox 360 a hummer last night, because I would rather do that then pay an extra $50 for a PS3.

Thanks Sony for screwing your friendly neighbors to the north. Expect a bag full of moose droppings in your mailbox soon.

[Update: Gamespot.com has reported that the price increase has been brought on by the retailers and not Sony.

“Although the suggested retail price (SRP) of the PlayStation 3 in Canada has not changed, some Canadian retailers have chosen to increase their retail price as a result of the weaker Canadian dollar. This increase is solely at the discretion of the retailer, as Sony Computer Entertainment Canada has not issued a price increase.”–An SCEC representative.

So I guess I better send an apology letter to Sony now for the moose dropping and start setting flaming bags of dog poop outside Future Shops and Best Buys.]
